Sports Gets a New Lottery System as NASCAR Partners With EquiLottery Games
NASCAR has signed a multiyear agreement with EquiLottery Games to let fans participate in lottery games on live NASCAR Cup Series races. The new game is called NASCAR Racing Riches and is intended to be offered through state lotteries as soon as 2021.
Consumers will purchase quick pick tickets consisting of three drivers set to compete in that week’s NASCAR Cup Series race. The lottery game will offer 7 to 1 odds of winning and prizes will range from $5 to $50,000. Prizes will be awarded based on the finishes of drivers a user has on their ticket for that race.
According to a press release, NASCAR and EquiLottery will offer a mobile app so users can scan their lottery tickets’ QR code to watch live races and see if they won prizes. NASCAR’s maneuver to the lottery comes shortly after the racing series announced a deal with IMG Arena to let international sportsbooks livestream races. That deal will also see the creation of a new virtual betting game for wagering on simulated NASCAR races.
“As our sports betting platform continues to mature, we are exploring even more ways to engage new and existing fans,” Scott Warfield, NASCAR’s managing director of gaming, said in a press release. “We’re impressed with the development of this new live sports lottery category and the opportunities it affords NASCAR to ignite new passionate fans.”
In February, Penn National Gaming became the first U.S. sportsbook to become an authorized gaming operator for NASCAR. EquiLottery’s first offering, a live horse racing lottery game, is scheduled to launch in August through the Kentucky Lottery. According to the company, that game will mark the first ever daily lottery game based on the results of a live sporting event in the U.S.
Major League Baseball announced a similar partnership with EquiLottery last September. That deal will let users buy lottery tickets on live MLB games, though a launch date for the game has yet to be announced.
